"POOR leadership, bad management and inadequate board members are the main reasons for hospitals and primary care trusts running up deficits, the Audit Commission has found" according to The Times. After years of management blaming clinical staff for the sorry state that the NHS has found itself in, we have been vindicated by the Audit Commission. The Government now faces the task of salvaging an NHS system that has spiralled into deep decline, where most NHS Trusts in England admit to failing to meet basic standards of safety and quality of care to patients. Hopefully, this report will make the Government rethink its core strategy of running the NHS and question the validity of only listening to so called financial consultants whilst turning a deaf ear to senior clinical staff.
