Eastbourne District General Hospital is fighting against planned downgrading
of the hospital, which would force pregnant women and children to travel 40
miles to the neighbouring Conquest hospital. The senior consultant in OBGYN,
Vincent Argent said, "Core
services in Eastbourne must be maintained. That means maternity, acute
paediatrics and a fully functioning accident and emergency department.
"These are very important emergency facilities. I have served the community for
20 years.
"I can tell you that loss of such services will lead to women and children dying
on the road to Hastings."
