Health Secretary Blames Doctors For NHS Failure
User Rating: / 2

It would appear that the undermining of the medical profession has just been kicked into high gear by the Government. According Ms. Hewitt, the Health Secretary, it is the profession's "clinical resistance" to change, that has undermined their health strategy. Surely it can't be the Government's lack of forward planning, they have dramatically increased spending on the NHS but without the desired outcome.

Every week we hear about "Targets" which need to be met and so forth. To make sure these targets are met, they hire private financial consultants and managers, all of whom fail to realise that health is completely unrelated to any other financial institution. In their opinions, patients are like robots or engines, which only require a quick examination, diagnose the fault and moved onto the next station for fixing. I guess, if the general public accepts how they are looked upon by the government as just numbers, we might as well be robots.

New Work Permit Regulation

Health Minister Lord Warner has announced today that from July 2006 onwards, all Non EU doctors wishing to work in the U.K. will require a work permit. This effectively means that an NHS Trust hospital has to prove that a "home grown" doctor can not fulfil the position, thus ending the permit free visas.

Could this move have been sparked by protests from junior doctors who have been unable to find training posts? At present it is claimed that upwards of 1000 applications are received for each post advertised. Could this spell the end for the GMC's overseas examination centres for the PLAB and its related industry in East Ham, London?

Students Fight Against MMC

Worried medical students voice their concerns over the failure of MDAP & MMC in general. They believe that there is no incentive for educational excellence as it is a lottery as to what Foundation program they are allotted, if they are given one that is. For more information on the situation facing final year students, follow these links:
